The unusually early timing of Easter this year meant that it fell during term time. Usually it is in the middle of a two-week holiday. Our Easter services were held in the Minster and we were joined by a good number of parents. The children sang our Easter hymns and songs enthusiastically, often doing actions to accompany the words. Rev Wallace spoke to the children about ‘new life’ and we explored the symbolism of eggs. This led on to the message of Jesus and of having new life in him. The children also showed some lovely artwork they had done in school around Easter, and these included some excellent Easter bonnets, laden with all sorts of Easter symbols.

Just before our holiday, the older children at school spent two days working with Andy Hawthorne, an artist from Dorset. He made large paper banners with them. They worked in groups and the banners were on a medieval theme, using heraldic symbols etc. The work produced was really very good, and the banners were photographed and the designs will now be printed up on to large silk sheets. These silk banners will be used to decorate the town and the school during the Ilminster Summer Experience on the weekend of June 14th and 15th. In the meantime, we hope to display the paper banners in the Meeting House in the near future. We are grateful to the Meeting House for arranging this work and for obtaining funding to make it happen. Andy commented on how well the children worked together and their enthusiasm. It is good to hear such comments from people outside the school.

The Methodist Church in Ilminster has just started to use the school hall as their venue for worship each Sunday. As a Christian school, wishing to promote the values of the Christian faith and the teachings of Jesus, we look forward to supporting the Methodist Church in this way. Our relationship with all churches in the town is, I believe, a very positive aspect of our community work and of benefit to all.

My very best wishes for the year ahead.
